Jenny & James Chateau de Lisse Wedding Part I

Part I of Jenny & James Chateau de Lisse wedding in this beautiful area of the Lot et Garonne department in South-West France.

This was the 5th wedding I have shot at this venue but the first I have also filmed.

When Jenny & James, a pair of New York creatives, first contacted me, I knew their wedding was going to be something a bit special.

A couple of other clients had also planned outdoor weddings at this venue, but the weather dictated otherwise, but this time, it came off…but I’m getting ahead of myself, – first there was Day 01.

Day 01 comprised a ‘meet & greet’ for friends & family arriving from all over the US and then an exclusive couple only shoot around the grounds before a pig roast and evening ‘open mic’ speeches.

All very relaxing and fantastic late afternoon/early evening light.

Part II follows here, but for this post, a selection of highlight pictures below:

Jenny & James Chateau de Lisse Wedding Part II

Following on from Part I of Jenny & James Chateau de Lisse wedding is Part II, their actual wedding day.

I use the word ‘day’ in it’s broadest sense as this was the latest starting ceremony I have covered in 15 years/600+ weddings with a scheduled start time of 6pm.

In the end it was 6.20pm, but in the late afternoon/early evening sunlight in an idyllic location by the lake below the chateau conducted by Jenny’s brother Jeff.

The meal was also outside on the terrace at 8.30pm and followed by speeches at table and dancing in La Salle de Dance.

Some weddings require little description. This was one of those weddings and the results speak for themselves.

They spoke to Jenny & James for sure…

Castelnau Des Fieumarcon Wedding – Fin & Dom

Hi Simon, we’ve just had a look at the film and absolutely love it, – it is AWESOME!!! Fin & Dom

My post in regard to this wedding is a little different this week.

Normally, I struggle to whittle a finished set of over 500+ finished images down to ‘just’ 150 or so (for the blog post) and it’s an agonising process as every image that makes the final cut, is an integral part of the story.

A question that is sometimes asked is “can you tell a story in a single picture” and the answer is both yes and no.

Yes in that it depends upon what that ‘story’ is and if it’s a single image that defines a moment (or short period or event) in time, it can be done, but in many cases, only to the photographer or the client/subject.

In regard to a wedding day, I’d say no, it cannot be done.

For instance, I could define Fin & Dom’s Castelnau Des Fieumarcon wedding in a single image…to me, but it almost certainly will not define it to anyone else for the simple reason, you (unless you are the B&G or a guest!) were not there and so do not have your memories to add to this single image.

But this single image could define their wedding for me:

Wedding: Gemma & Jack, Chateau de la Cazine, Limousin, France

The first of 5 weddings I am photographing in France this year began with Gemma & Jack’s wedding at the stunning Chateau de la Cazine in the heart of the Limousin region of France.

It was my first visit to both the venue and the region and a beautiful part of France it certainly is and easily accessible with a modern but tiny airport at Limoges.

This wedding was a typical 2 day coverage affair with a relaxed half day prior before the main event on the following day.

Here’s a link through to that first day with the full wedding day to follow shortly…

Oh and the picture? Jack is a professional footballer, so it would have been somewhat unusual not to have some kind of football link at their wedding and despite the World Cup going on in Brazil right now, not a single guest was watching any of the matches on TV! But then someone found a ball late in the evening on the Friday…

Jenny & James’s Chateau de Lisse Wedding

“Thank you so much for sending these through and for all your hard work – we had such a fabulous wedding day and we are so grateful to have had you as our photographer!”
Jenny & James

Who: Jenny & James
Where: Chateau de Lisse, Lot et Garonne, France
When: 15th September
Weather: Mix of sunny and grey/dull spells

I love road-trip weddings…except in this case it was more of a plane-flight job with a very early Manchester airport to Toulouse on the Friday.
This allows me to indulge one of my hobbies, – window shopping for watches I cannot afford and will never own, in airport terminals.
It’s a great way to pass 30 minutes or so.

Jenny & James’s wedding then…

Coming from Australia, I hadn’t met Jen & James prior to their wedding, at least not until the day prior when I joined them for their wedding rehearsal with local lad, Father William.
That is local to me in Yorkshire as rather than being a Frenchman, Father William is from Middlesborough.

We then spent a little time on a pre-wedding photo-shoot around the grounds of Chateau de Lisse, a venue I have visited before.
The results of that mini photo-shoot can be viewed by clicking the link, in this journal entry.

The wedding day itself looked promising weather-wise with gorgeous sunshine and blue skies one side of the road…and thick cloud on the other.
Literally, – the road was a divider for about 5 minutes, so I blasted out some shots of the venue before the cloud bank rolled in.

It did clear itself nicely for the drinks reception and never got ‘hot’ (at least not for the Aussies, but I thought it pleasantly warm).
It all went beautifully from there with a small/intimate drinks reception followed by a really tasty meal prepared by Soren the chef.

Below is the slideshow production from Jen & James’s wedding which is slightly quicker to view than the pics above and has the bonus of a soundtrack.

Article: Getting Married in France?

I have just returned from a productive week in the South West corner of France, – the Gers region to be precise, part of that somewhat vaguely defined area known as Gascony.

We have been fortunate to have had a family home in the village of La Romieu in the square overlooking  the Collégiale de La Romieu for the last 13 years and from this base, I have produced the series of panoramic images above including;

The romantic hilltop village of Lagarde Fimarcon which is home to the wedding venue known as Castelnau des Fieumarcon in regard to which there will be a much fuller post to follow soon.

Also the stunning Chateau De Lisse, just over our border in neighbouring Lot et Garonne…also to feature in another post soon.

The rest of the images above are from La Romieu itself and some of the surrounding countryside.

Firehorse Photography specialise in photographing weddings anywhere in France and particularly welcome enquiries for our own region of the Gers, plus; Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon, Côte d’Azur, Charente, Loire and Normandy regions.

Winnie & Sean’s Paris Honeymoon Photo-Shoot

Firehorse Photography offer engagement, pre-wedding, honeymoon and anniversary photo-shoots in Paris.

This particular photo-shoot with honeymooners Winnie & Sean from Malaysia took place in mid-October with locations including; Montmatre, the banks of the Seine river, The Louvre, The Tuilerie Gardens, Place de la Concorde and Champ du Mars.

The temperature was fine, but the weather wasn’t that great with the promised sunshine never appearing and instead we had either cool & grey, or rain, but otherwise we had a great time and produced some great results.

Roula & Jaber, Cote D’Azur, France wedding photography & filming

This was a truly international wedding with the couple and majority of guests from Lebanon and others from all around the world with the wedding spread over 3 days.

Day 01 was a relaxed evening affair at La Plage du Festival restaurant right on the beach at Cannes with the bride Roula wearing the first of four dresses selected for her wedding.
Relaxed initially anyway, the dancing got a bit crazy after the meal!

On the Saturday (Day 02), we were working at a total of 4 different venues in the village of La Colle Sur Loup starting with the restaurant/hotel Alain Llorca (where we were fed endless amounts of very tasty truffle topped pizza) where Roula was getting ready.

This was followed by a civil ceremony at the local mairie for immediate family and close friends after which Roula left in order to change into her second dress of the day and Jaber led the guests on a walk through the beautiful village to the church of St. Jacques.

Following the ceremony, a drinks reception took place in the gardens of the ancient L’Abbaye hotel with the evening meal and speeches taking places in a delightful inner courtyard.

Entertainment was provided throughout the day by an accordian and a violin player and with singing later by a friend of the bride.

And just where/when most weddings would have finished, Roula & Jaber cranked it up a notch with a late afternoon and evening second reception on Day 03 at the simply stunning Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on Cap Ferrat close to Nice.

Featuring dress number 4, we had a photo-shoot in the gardens in beautiful early evening sunlight followed by a drinks reception complete with Spanish guitars and a meal outdoors in the French gardens.

Cutting of the cake up on the villa’s balcony followed with dancing in the main hall to finish off what was quite simply a spectacular wedding and one we will never forget (especially due to Roula and Jaber’s hospitality and thoughtfulness in regards to our needs throughout the entire time we were there).
