Kim & Andy’s Stubton Hall Wedding – Winter Wedding Photography

W inter Wedding Photography is about as tough as it comes in this industry. In June, even if it’s grey and flat or raining, at least it’s light until 10pm and that gives options.

With a wedding in mid-December, as a photographer, any light is a gift and what you are given tends to be low in quantity and often even less in quality.

To give your wedding photographer a fighting chance, do not get married at 5pm with a candle-lit ceremony!

Fortunately on December 12th 2014, Kim & Andy gave this photographer the best of those fighting chances and the weather was a gift on top.

OK, it was still virtually pitch dark by 4pm, but there is nothing anyone can do in that regard. Except get married in June…

With a 1.30pm ceremony at the very elegant Stubton Hall and some very welcome Winter sunshine, we had a great opportunity and used it. I say welcome Winter sunshine, but that is welcome other than during the ceremony as the low winter sun was blasting through the windows directly into everyone’s faces making for the ultimate wedding photographer nightmare of contrast far too high for any camera to handle

coupled with shadows of the window frames directly onto the subjects faces. Call it a gift, but in the bride Kimberley’s case, it fell just below her eyes.

This wasn’t the first time I have photographed Kim or her family as I photographed her identical twin sister’s (Lauren) wedding to Johnny at Hodsock Priory 15 months ago, so there were many familiar faces.

The wedding day itself was a very classy affair themed in black & silver with a hint of ruby courtesy of Kim’s lips and nails with civil ceremony followed by chapel blessing followed by drinks reception. The meal itself followed by dancing took place in the orangery which was a perfect setting.

Kim wore Pronovias from Beautiful Brides of Nottingham and the groom a suit from Skopes.

Flowers were by friend Joanne and that stunningly sculpted cake by Ben ‘The Cake Man’ of Birmingham and the band was Blues Armada.

Kim & Andy are honeymooning in February in Thailand.

This was my first Stubton Hall wedding and I hope not my last…but maybe June next time… 😉

Lisa & Gary’s Winter Middleton Lodge Wedding

Winter-Middleton-Lodge-Wedding-077

Oh my goodness!!! We are sooooooooo happy with them! They look amazing! Cannot wait for the album.
Thank you so much for making the day so special for us.
Your professionalism and kindness was outstanding and everyone has commented on how amazing you were.
Thank you for being so accommodating on the day after inter-cutting your schedule with silly requests :)
We are both so glad we chose you to capture our special day!
Many many thanks
Mr and Mrs Calvert X

Lisa & Gary’s Winter Middleton Lodge Wedding took place on the 13th December at this fabulous country house wedding venue.

They hoped for and got snow on the ground as it had fallen 5 inches thick the day prior which didn’t help with guests arriving in the area the day prior, but created a real Winter feeling to their day (preferred over dull & grey for sure!).

Lisa wore a Rime Arodaky wedding dress sourced from The Mews in Notting Hill, London and the groomsmen, brown tweed suits and bow ties.

Flowers were by Floralcraft of Loftus and cake by Grandma Eileen.

Evening entertainment was courtesy of wedding band, The Beer Pigs.

Congratulations to Lisa & Gary on a great wedding day and a few picture highlights are available to view below with full international print ordering facility available shortly by clicking here.

Sound the trumpets! New Firehorse Photography website launched!

I t’s been a long time coming and a real labour of love, but finally my new website (and branding) is complete! Well almost…there are still a couple of sections to complete and these will be completed before the new year arrives.

I am pretty pleased with it and at the same time, sick of the sight of it, but that is an inevitable part of sitting staring at a computer screen for day after day after day after…

If you are new to Firehorse Photography then it won’t look any different (obviously) as you will not be aware of the old site (same as everyone else’s, – dull, boring, zzzzzzzzzzzz) but existing clients will be aware that it’s big change.

For existing clients, as in recent clients whose weddings I have photographed, your personal pages have been copied over to either this Journal page, or the Archive section and we’re pretty excited about a brand new client area that is due to be launched very soon that offer the following:

Wedding Details where you can have a map of your wedding location and info etc for guests in the build up to your wedding.

Gift Registry where guests can contribute towards upgraded book/album costs…and maybe more.

Guest Registry where friends & family can leave their best wishes (or complain about the food).

Engagement/Save-The-Date pictures with international print ordering facility.

Wedding Day images with international print ordering facility.

So there is some exciting stuff to come for 2015 (a further post about that soon) and we look forward to sharing it with you.

Simon

Kimberley & Rashpal’s Wedding Part 01

Every now and again, a wedding comes along that blows me away.

I don’t always see some of them coming, – sometimes it’s the smaller mid-week one’s that had very little fanfare in the build up and other times you just know it’s going to be something ‘a bit special’.

To describe Kimberley & Rashpal’s wedding as ‘a bit special’ is if anything, a bit of understatement.

It wasn’t flashy or particularly showy even, – I’ve been to bigger and they won’t be offended in me saying I’m sure, grander (in that the Sikh temple hall is not the last word in luxury, but weddings are about people and not so much places!), but it was one of those days when the planets all aligned and the fat lady sang her Punjabi heart out all day.

All day from 6am.

Kimberley & Rashpal’s Wedding Part 02

Continuing on from Part 01 of Kimberley & Rashpal’s wedding that took place at the Tong Road Gudawara in Leeds, proceedings moved to Rudding Park in Harrogate.

It could have been sunnier, but it wasn’t cold and there were some spectacular Autumnal colours in the grounds which couldn’t have complemented the couple’s red & gold outfits any more perfectly.

After a short exclusive session with the B&G in the grounds, we covered a few essential family groups and then it was off for a costume change for the bride & groom (and time for Rashpal to lose the beard!).

The chapel blessing conducted by Father Ian was as powerful & emotive as the Sikh wedding ceremony with singing lead by Kimberley’s cousins from South Africa.

Part 03 follows here.

Kimberley & Rashpal’s Wedding Part 03

Following on from Part 02, is this Part 03 the concluding chapter of Kimberley & Rashpal’s wedding day.

After a great confetti dash, the wedding party moved inside for drinks and canapes with a few more family pics and a second short session with the couple on their own.

The wedding breakfast comprised some fantastic Indian food with with evening music and entertainment provided by Jam Entertainment.

Some of the other people involved in this wedding were: car provided by Superior Motor Cars, floristry by Kirstie at Where Angels Play and cake by the bride herself.

All in all, I have attended some very special weddings and every now and again, something outstanding comes along and this was one of those days. All 16 hours of it!

Kaylie & Tom’s wedding in Provence – Chateau de Massillan

Despite being Provence and early Summer, the forecast for this one was not looking good for the evening, – the last thing you need for an outdoor ceremony and dinner on the terrace.
By 8pm it predicted thunderstorms, so not looking good…!!

Kaylie & Tom chose the gorgeous Chateau de Massillan near Orange in Provence for their wedding, a 2 day affair with picnic and BBQ on Day 01 followed by the actual wedding day on the 28th June.

The bride wore Johanna Hehir and the groom a Leonard Jay suit with the fabulous flowers by local florist Blandine.

The ceremony took place outdoors under the shade of the large plane trees in the chateau grounds where the picnic had taken place the previous day.
It was conducted by the couples good friend George (with accompaniment by the cicadas in the trees) and followed by a refreshing Prosecco and delicious canape reception.

The 4 course wedding breakfast was held in the open air internal courtyard of the chateau and that promised thunderstorm…?

Well it did come as predicted, dramatically with some lightning flashes during mains and a few drops during dessert, but it didn’t come down properly until everyone had moved inside for the dancing with band Beer Pressure.

Kaylie & Tom honeymooned in Provence & Paris followed by Miami & Belize later this year.

Kate & Stuart’s Devonshire Fell Wedding

Kate & Stuart chose the delightful The Devonshire Fell in the charming Yorkshire Dales village of Burnsall for their November wedding day.

Being November, the weather did what it usually does in this month and that is remained a decidedly darker shade of grey all day with patches of rain.

It didn’t stop them having a great day indoors though with a ceremony in the Dalzell room followed by drinks & canapes in the main area of the hotel.

Kate wore Charlotte Balbier from the The Wedding Dress Company in Corbridge and the groom a grey pinstripe suit.

Floristry was by friends Rhiannon & Lindsay with a wedding cake from Betty’s of Harrogate and an additional cheese tower from Moor & Farm.

Evening entertainment and music was supplied by Ben of Graham Bower DJ’s.

Alex & James’s Autumn Wedding Photography at Middleton Lodge

Autumn-Wedding-Photography_103

Alex & James’s Autumn wedding photography took place at one of our most regular and visited venues, the fabulous Middleton Lodge in North Yorkshire.

I had more than a little personal connection with this wedding in that the bride’s mother Susanne is our bookkeeper and I suggested they at least look at Middleton Lodge when considering their venue as it would suit their requirements perfectly. They took that advice and the results in highlight form are below!

Alex wore Justin Alexander from Miranda Marie of Yarm and James and blue suit with makeup (Alex’s!) by Emma from Jo Leversuch.

Flowers were by Yvonne Dennis and cake by Rhian Crusher and band Jonny Ross with the couple honeymooning in West Coast USA.

The ceremony itself took place at St Michael & All Angel’s in the village of Middleton Tyas and was conducted by the Rev. David Lewis.
